External Hard Drives
A great place to keep your photos is on an external hard drive! You can take it with you wherever you go and easily transfer the files from your SD cards right onto it. You can also of course keep it organized and create a folder structure that works for you, organizing by shoot, date, location or whatever you’d like. There are tons of external hard drive options out there, all varying in storage size! You can purchase something small if you don’t have too many photos to keep track of, or you can get a larger one so you can continue to add more and more without any issues. It’s also a great idea to have a backup hard drive just in case! Although you can usually count on your hard drive, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
Online & Cloud Storage Services
If you don’t want to have a physical backup like the hard drive, perhaps you’d prefer storing your photos in an online service or cloud. Some online cloud services that you can store your photos in include Google Photos, iCloud and Dropbox. There is also the option of using a website that is specifically made for photographers to put collections of their photographs onto, such as Flickr and SmugMug. These options have varying storage capabilities, so be sure to do your research!
Lightroom
Using Adobe Lightroom Classic CC for photo storage is something that a lot photographers take advantage of! It’s really great because Lightroom acts as a database for all your photos and you can organize them in so many ways! They can be tagged by colour or keyword. You can organize photos by year or location or technique. Lightroom is a fabulous tool because it has multiple purposes! Not only is Lightroom an incredible place to store photos, but of course it’s one of the best places to edit them as well. If you’re going to be editing and storing photos, why not do it all in one place? Lightroom is convenient and learning to use it is a very practical skill for any photographer to have.
