Three out of the four started out on the popular social media platform YouTube as teens, and with time rose to their current fame. They’ve inspired us to search for our future web stars and influencers from the GTA.
There’s no denying that Karen Ip, with over 940 000 Instagram followers, is one well known Torontonian. She started off on Instagram at age 15, regularly posting selfies and short videos, as an aspiring model. The now 17-year-old posts YouTube videos from time to time and continues to post on Instagram frequently for her huge following.
From Mississauga, Steven Van has made his 88 500+ subscriber count by posting weekly editing and design tutorials, tips and tricks and some lifestyle/advice videos on Youtube. According to his website, he is the creative director for Rozaay Management, and his Youtube channel is one of the fastest growing tech and tutorial channels. He has achieved all of this at the young age of 16!
At only 16-years-old, Carly Sarah has over 569 000 followers on Instagram. Born in North York and coming from two Filipino parents, her feed is comprised mostly of selfies and lip syncing videos made on musical.ly and Triller. She used to post several videos a week on YouTube for her 138 000 subscribers but hasn’t posted in the last 7 months.
You’re probably wondering how a 15-year-old from Mississauga gained over 4.1 million Instagram followers and 2.1 million YouTube subscribers. Well, Johnny Orlando started with posting covers of popular songs, often accompanied by his sister. He would then make original music which he started posting in 2016. One of his first original music videos titled “Let Go” gained over 10 million views!
Aaliyah Mendes is the sister of previously mentioned Shawn Mendes. She was made popular by her lip syncing videos on musical.ly. The young hockey fan has over 663 000 followers on Instagram and is only 14-years-old!
Though his followings don’t add up to the previously mentioned teens, Peter Gonsalves is still an influencer. His Instagram is full of artsy photos of his friends and the city of Toronto which he shares to his more than 11 500 followers. He also has a YouTube channel where he mostly posts vlogs of his adventures.
