Telling Stories Through Photography

With practical experience, students will discover how powerful photography can be to effectively communicate a message across and capture meaningful stories!
“This was so fun! I learned so much and I am excited to go out and try what I learned!”
– Holly | GTA Photography Camper 2017
- Introduction to visual storytelling and photojournalism
- Black & white photography methods and techniques
- How to use camera accessories (flashes, different types of lenses, tripod, etc.)
- Effectively capturing a wide range of subject matter
This camp is focused on the idea of creating a photo essay by covering the components of visual storytelling. Teens will get the opportunity to visit some cool locations and events and will work in a series to truly capture what they see.
People, Places and Events
Documentary includes a wide variety of photography: sports, wedding and street photography are all some examples. This camp will cover all the basics to make sure teens are prepared to capture a broad range of subject matter.
Lenses, flashes and when to use tripod are all questions that will be covered in this camp. We’ll talk about what lenses are useful for specific scenes and subject matter and will also go over a basic intro to flash.
Introduction To Photojournalism
Images can effectively help tell the story without the use of words or audio. Photographers play a very important role in journalism because “pictures are worth a thousand words”. We’ll show campers how to effectively convey a message and tell viewers what’s happening through photojournalism.
