WHY GTA PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES / CLASS INFORMATION:

Why GTA Photography Classes?

  • We strongly believe in keeping classes fun and interactive!  In order to create this environment our studio is set up like a living room (you don’t sit in a typical classroom, you relax on a couch).   We also keep our class sizes to a maximum of 10 students.
  • We keep in touch and keep you involved in photography even after your class is done.  We organize many different events for our students throughout the year, including; socials, competitions and exhibits.  All with the purpose of keeping you involved!!
  • Knowledgeable instructors that are willing to help!
  • Location, location, location:  we are conveniently located at King and Yonge.  Please see our CONTACT page for exact location and map.
In addition, we are working on making ourselves even more accessible with the opening of new locations around Toronto.

How big are your class sizes?

We limit all sessions to a maximum of 10 students. Based on our experience, we have found that students are able to grasp the concepts better in small class sizes.  This allows you to ask questions as we go and get personal attention.

Do I get more instruction in the Weekend Boot Camp or the 4 week program?

All of our programs include the exact same lecture / workshop material.  You will not get any more or less in any of the sessions.
Weekend Boot Camps have an extra 2 hours that we use for lunch.  Otherwise, all sessions have the same course outline and the exact same material is discussed.
You just select the class type that works best for your schedule.  Everything else is the same!

GENERAL REGISTRATION QUESTIONS:

How early do I need to register?

Registration is finalized 1 week prior to the start of the class. Please note however, that our classes usually book up well before this deadline. In order to guarantee enrollment, we recommend registering at least 3 to 4 weeks prior to the start of the class.

How do I register?

Simple!  Just go to our “Classes” section and pick the class of your choice from the drop down menu. There you will find all information on the course, including; pre-requisites, course outlines and all upcoming sessions. Pick the time that is most convenient for you and click REGISTER.

What type of payment do you accept?

Most of our registration is done ONLINE using MC and VISA. We do however, except CASH / CHEQUES in person at the studio.
Please phone ahead to make an appointment to register if paying by cash, as we may be in session or out on assignment. Cheques can also be mailed to our studio;

47 Colborne St #306, Toronto ON M5E 1P8

Can I transfer to another class after I have registered?

Unfortunately, we DO NOT allow transfers to other classes. All our sessions have a maximum amount of students that we cap at 10 in order to keep a fun and interactive environment. As a result, we do not exceed this amount and transfers are not allowed.
Any time missed due to lateness or absence of the students will not be refunded.

If I miss a class can I retake it in another session?

We do not allow transfers to other sessions. If you have a problem with one of your sessions, please contact us at 416-546-9089 prior to the session so we can resolve the issue. If we are not notified in a timely manner, make-up sessions will not be allowed and funds will not be refunded. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure they are able to attend all sessions and notify us in a timely manner if there is a problem.

Will these courses be offered again?

Yes we run these sessions throughout the year, multiple times per month. Sessions are introduced on a monthly basis, usually 1 / 2 months in advance.  So if you are looking to take a class in June, check back with us sometime in April or early May.

I can’t seem to find a class that works for me. Can I still take a class?

Of course! First of all, make sure to email us at info@gtaphotographyclasses.com and let us know what day / time / location we are missing that would work better. This helps us when we introduce new sessions. You can also consider private lessons. We offer private lessons for those that cannot make our regularly scheduled times. Please take a look at the PRIVATE LESSONS page for more details.

PRIOR TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

Do I need prior training / experience?

For the introductory course (Photo 101), no prior training is required.
More advanced courses such as Photo 201, do require prior experience. Please see the specific course, under “CLASSES” for more details on requirements.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

What kind of camera do I need?

For the introductory course (Photo 101), you need a camera that will allow you to shoot in manual mode. Usually indicated by a large capital (”M”).  Digital SLR or any point and shoot camera that allows you to shoot in manual mode is suitable for the course.
For more advanced courses, DSLR’s are required. If you need help on what is a DSLR – please visit the following link: CAMERA HELP

Is film ok?

Yes – film cameras are suitable for PHOTO 101, as we cover the core principles that apply to both digital and film photography.  More advanced courses such as 201 might require a DSLR.  Please check with us before registration.

What brand of camera is suitable?

We are knowledgeable with all the brands out there .  Canon, Nikon, Sony, Olympus, … the list goes on.  Whatever your brand of camera, we can work with you to show you the settings.

If I do not have a camera yet?  Do I have any options?

Yes – we have a LOANER CAMERA AVAILABLE; For those that are interested in taking the class, but have not yet purchased a camera, you can consider borrowing our loaner camera. Please note however, these cameras are limited and must be reserved prior to registering for the course. Please contact us at info@gtaphotographyclasses.com or 416-546-9089 and request the camera for the session that works for you.
We also have put together a small guide to help those purchasing their very first DSLR.  Take a look at the following link for our recommendations for your first DSLR purchase: CAMERA HELP

What else do I need?

More advanced classes or editing courses will require particular software/equipment. Please refer to the specific course for individual requirements.

Do you offer a certificate program?

No. We do not offer certificates for the courses completed.  We are not a college.  Instead we foster a different environment of a private school that provides workshops and personal attention, as opposed to 13 week classes in lecture halls.  This is what we specialize in and what we do best!!

KIDS & TEENS

How old does my teen have to be before enrolling in the program?

We have had kids as young as 12 enroll in our sessions.  We have developed specific kids and teens classes to cater to these young students.  We recommend students be 12 years or older for our kids and teens session.
If they are younger, you can always consider private lessons as an option.
